NBA Jam iPhone Review

NBA Jam is a classic; for years it dominated the arcades and home consoles with its slick presentation and crazy gameplay. EA recently brought the franchise back from the dead with high profile releases on the Wii, 360 and PS3. A few months later the publisher has followed up with a fully fledged iPhone version that holds its own against the console versions.

Pick up and play is the name of the game, and NBA Jam does that perfectly on the iPhone. All your high flying, ball flaming slam dunks are back as is the ridiculous antics that take place on court. Graphically the iPhone version looks amazing on the iPhone’s Retina display, never suffering from frame rate issues and delivering intense gameplay every second.

The controls are simple and work. Three buttons on the right hand side control speed boosts, passing and shooting/dunking. An accurate virtual thumbstick on the left controls your movement. After a few minutes you will tune in to how your player reacts to movement and you’ll be slamming dunks like a pro.

The one and only downfall of NBA Jam is the lack of multiplayer support. This game is screaming for competition between friends, but unfortunately any multiplayer components have been left out. Thankfully there is a rather impressive and robust single player campaign that will keep you busy for quite some time.

NBA Jam for the iPhone is faithful not only to the recent resurrection of the franchise but also the essence of the original classic. With fantastic graphics, tight controls and an impressive single player component you’ll be slamming dunks for weeks on end.

Well, hopefully a multiplayer patch gets added in, for now I might wait for it to go on sale
We can hope. Multiplayer would really make this a must have app!
