Nintendo making iOS apps is "absolutely not under consideration".

Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, has told a Japanese news organization that they will never be making games for any iOS platform. His exact words to the reporter were "This is absolutely not under consideration."

This arises after months of people requesting Nintendo to make games for the iOS platforms. Shareholders have reportedly demanded Satoru Iwata to consider the iOS platform as an option when developing games, the president simply replied with "not as long as I am in charge".

How do you feel about his decision? Would you rather Nintendo develop for the iOS platforms?

He said smartphones in general, he didn't single out the iOS, I don't even think apple products are that popular in Japan anyway.

I'm not particularly disappointed to be honest. I think if Nintendo were to start developing apps for smartphones, with some of their IP's involved, or even creating a new one, would make the 3DS lose the few things that are still keeping the system on its last legs this year.

I mean, could you just imagine if Nintendo were to release the exact same/similar Mario game on the iOS? Especially at a small price compared to the 3DS. The system would lose all worth.

tl;dr, I think Nintendo shouldn't start developing apps for Smartphones, it's a good move for them as a company.

This is a confirmation by Iwata about that subject.

To put it bluntly, big companies can't sustain themselves on iOS games alone. I doubt they ever will; when you have games like New Super Mario Bros. selling over 20 million, with $35 each, you can see just how much cash they're raking in. Say, triple those sales, but even at $1 it would barely be a percentage of the profit they make otherwise. [MOG]

It'd be nice if they made any games at the moment. Seriously, woeful doesn't begin to describe the current games available for the 3DS.

Zelda excluded........that game is brilliance.
"not as long as I am in charge" that's the way you tell people to STFU. look I wouldn't mind seeing some Nintendo games on my phone but it would play like crap compared to playing on a specifically designed gaming system. You need the controllers and buttons, touch screen only games are just time fillers for when you are bored or taking an epic dump on the can.

Leave the gimmicky, quick time filler games on the smart phones and make proper games for the consoles and handheld systems.
