I can program in a multitude of languages - C, C#, C++, Objective C, Java, C# XNA (lol), Python, I know the UDK aaaaand that's about all the useful languages I know.

@iamtom - what's good for gaming isn't necessarily dictated by the depth of a language.. working in 3d? If you're good enough to draw 3D textures/shapes and have an interesting idea you can create just as good a game in one language than another.

Practicality is a whole other issue, but depending on proficiency, there's no 'best' language for programming games. [MOG]

This is true, but I would rather program a 3D game in C or something rather than, say, VB6.

Made several games, board, adventure, POS, PCGen, PCTools, always ran out of memory lol, I am talking BASIC of course, some VB6 (lost the plot here though), C++ makes me cry, I need lessons I guess.
I really believe making a game now requires a group, its just too much work, unless you have lots-of-time.

If you are planning on this as a hobbie you enjoy, go ahead. If you are thinking in making money or a life out of it, I wouldn't recommend it, too many people, just take a look at the apple app store, and it isn't easy to compete with the big companies.
